We combined two things we love to make these Pacific-language resources: supporting New Zealand’s Pacific-language communities and creating fun, accessible eLearning modules.
In 2017, we created Lau Mata’ifika (Count with me), a numbers resource for Tongan Language Week. We followed it up in 2018 with Faitau fa‘atasi ma a‘u (Count with me), a numbers resource for Samoan Language Week. And again in 2018 we created Ka tārē kapipiti tāua (Count with me), for Cook Islands Language Week. Most recently, we created Let’s learn colours: Tauloto fakatasi tātou i lanu for Tuvalu Language Week 2019.
Each resource teaches students a handful of new words. First, students hear how each word sounds. Second, they learn how to say it themselves, and third, they practice their new words with a few simple exercises.
