Supporting facilitators to deliver effective learning experiences for struggling carpentry apprentices.
The challenge
BCITO wanted to ensure that all carpentry apprentices, particularly second-language learners, had the support needed to meet key skill “specifications”. The current on-the-job training and theoretical resources were not always achieving this goal. Some apprentices found it challenging to understand course content fully. While regional facilitated classes aimed to address these gaps, BCITO were keen to create new standardised material and facilitator support for a consistent learning experience across the country.
How do we create a streamlined, accessible support program that would ensure consistent, high-quality learning for all apprentices across the country?
The solution
Lift developed a standardised training package to support apprentices and facilitators alike. Key elements included:
• A 2-hour workshop package, including a facilitator’s guide, a PowerPoint presentation, and interactive learning activities.
• A self-paced online module for independent learning, accessible to apprentices and facilitators for flexible support.
• 3D animated videos that are designed to enhance understanding of challenging concepts.
