Some of the work we are proudest of with Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is the Tikanga Programme for tauira (students) in prison. Working with our strong network of Māori cultural and language experts, we created a full suite of print resources to help students begin to learn about and connect with Māori tikanga, including topics on heritage and performing arts.
There were challenges in this environment, specifically access to resources. To compensate, we created a stand-alone set of materials with a wide breadth of perspectives and supporting images, while keeping to the given criteria of allowable content. Glosses were used to provide full literacy support and encourage use of basic te reo Māori.
